Dreams

The other night I had a dream about the ceramics studio here. It was partially collapsed, like Lambertville High, and structural elements created new rooms and pathways. At one point, I was climbing up an I-beam or wall or something, and once again was led into a series of attic rooms. They were not as homely as the ones at Solebury slumberland, the walls were made of chipped and decaying plaster and stucco. Wherever you looked here, it was light and you could see where you were going; but where you weren't looking it was very dark. There were some artists' studios here, like the ones we have at the visual arts building. But the person who worked in them was always coming or going, or not there at all. There were high rooms where you could see out of the buildings here, too.

Last night I dreamed that I was in Franklin, the house that is across from Stokes, the one I live in. The houses have wooden floors here, and white walls. They do feel somewhat colonial in construction, like the Bookworm in Cranbury. I was in Franklin, and it was the day before long weekend, and everyone was moving their things out of their rooms for room check. During Christmas break here, you have to empty your rooms, in the dream, the same was done for long weekend (which was the weekend I had visited you, anachronistically). I had forgotten to empty my room, but it was too late.

Noah was there, and we went upstairs, up two stories (the houses here are only 2 stories, though). There was a common room or hallway, full of wooden bookshelves. Walking around the house, there were more on this floor. He was reading, and I was looking at many, as well.

There seems to be a theme of going upwards, of things mysterious but at the same time well understood. There is common architecture, in some ways. Jung wrote about a dream he had, where he was descending in his home. He lived in a German-style house he built himself. When he went downstairs, he found that his basement was of brick and mortar, very medieval. As he descended further, he eventually reached a room which was only hewn cave walls, with primitive human bones scattered on the floor. I don't remember what his point of this was at the moment, it was very mystical, epistemological, and holistically humanistic. To me, my dreams of ascending into labyrinth-like attics are of similar quality.
