GaiaNet

I am currently conceptualizing a website. It would serve as a learning resource for sustainable and consumer-aware living. I feel that most web resources of this sort have problems:
  1. too specialized, and thus a turn-off to non-specialists and casual readers
  2. too basic, providing redundant and hackneyed information (i.e., use CFL bulbs and buy organic)
  3. biased, providing one-sided arguments and opinions, as is the case with PETA and AlterNet
  4. too short-sighted! Many web resources do not provide further information for people who want to go past common knowledge
And so, I propose the website GaiaNet, a green & humanist educational resource. The website would be a library of articles, divided into three tiers:

  • Learning: articles & resources about the environment, industrial practices, & consumer awareness
  • Living: guidelines for conscious living, as well as do-it-yourself activities & recipes
  • Involvement: projects and plans to involve yourself & your community on a wider scale
Topics covered would include:
  • environment, general
  • ecology
  • industrial practices
  • consumer awareness
  • rights, animal
  • rights, human
  • issues, deforestation
  • gardening, organic
  • cooking
  • vegetarian & vegan
  • activism
  • educational resources
Note that certain topics, such as those of Human Rights and Industrial Practices, would be related primarily to consumer awareness.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
