Current Happenings

Few new developments, due to the amount of schoolwork in my life. Previous projects (growing soybeans and cabbage, the worm bin, kombucha brewing) are continuing in a regular fashion. I am also experimenting with polyphasic sleep cycles, but am not about to report upon it just yet.

Most of my day has been concerned with schoolwork, and when that is inapplicable, songwriting. My classes this semester are:
  • Chemistry Principals, which is exactly what it sounds like
  • Teaching & Learning, a core class in the education curriculum (I am focusing on education at the moment)
  • Self & Community in the Digital Age, which is a "design lab"- the classes are discussion based, and most of the homework is reading articles and writing about how they apply to our lives on a web forum.
  • Foundations in Ceramics: Roots of Form, a basic ceramics class. Right now we are making baskets.
That is the gist of it. I am still reading the Earthsea cycle, but at a retarded pace. It is fortunate that when I am busy, I am much better at thinking of things to do with my free time. So, we will see what boons materialise in the coming weeks.

In Teaching & Learning yesterday, we watched Through These Eyes, a documentary about an progressive education experiment which occurred between 1967 and 1974. The project replaced standard curriculum in public primary schools with one based around the natural world and traditional Inuit life. It was very controversial, and the documentary is wonderful.

IamA on Reddit is my new favourite timesink.
